Federal Executive Branch Affirms Roles and Responsibilities in U.S. Elections

The Federal Executive Branch serves to protect U.S. elections and voters, systems, officials, and workers in various ways. Many of its responsibilities are longstanding, while some are more inspired by the recent threats of foreign election influence and interference.

 

We are collectively releasing this fact sheet to affirm the Federal Executive Branch’s roles and responsibilities in U.S. elections. While state and local officials are responsible for the administration of elections, Federal departments and agencies provide states with critical assistance in mitigating election security challenges, protect citizens’ rights to vote, and offers access to relevant information. This fact sheet is a formal reference document for state and local jurisdictions and provides links to additional resources for these officials.
